Translate stories
Localize your newsroom and share announcements with different audiences by creating translations manually or with built-in AI auto-translate.
Enable languages
Before translating any story, you need to enable the languages you want to use for your site.
Add languages to your site
- Go to Sites in the left sidebar and select your site
- Open Site info & languages
- Click Add language and choose one or more languages from the list
Languages appear on your site once you publish at least one story in that language.

Localize site information
For each enabled language, you can localize:
- Site name
- Contact details
- Social links
- Boilerplate text
To update these, select the language in Site info & languages, then edit the fields in the panel that opens.
Change the default site language
Hover over a language in Site info & languages, click the ••• menu, and choose Set as default. This is the language visitors see first when they open your site.
Share your site in a specific language
Each language has its own URL shortcode (for example, /es for Spanish).
To share a localized version of your newsroom, use the corresponding URL:
https://yournewsroom.com/es
If your site has multiple published languages, a language switcher will appear at the top of your newsroom allowing any visitors to toggle between translations.
Translating stories
You can translate a story from inside the editor or from the Stories overview. Translations of the same story are linked together so that visitors can toggle languages on your site without losing their place.
Avoid using the Duplicate story action for translations. Duplicated stories are not linked and won’t appear in the language switcher. Always create translations through Language & translations.
Translate a story inside the editor

- Open your story in the editor
- In the right-hand sidebar, click Language & translations
- Choose the language you want to translate into
- If AI translation is enabled, you’ll be asked whether to translate manually or automatically
- A new version of the story is created with all the same assets (images, videos, galleries)
- Edit the content to complete your translation
You can switch between all existing translations of the story using Language & translations.
Translate a story from the Stories overview

- Go to Stories
- Hover over your story and click the ••• menu
- Select Translate
This opens the translated version in the editor.
If you don’t see the language you need, enable it in Site info & languages first.

Changing a story’s language
If a story is labeled with the wrong language, you can update it:
- Open the story in the editor
- Go to Language & translations
- Select the correct language from the list
AI auto-translate add-on
The AI auto-translate add-on provides instant translations powered by DeepL, supporting translation to and from more than 30 languages. It is an optional paid add-on.

How AI auto-translation works
Once the add-on is enabled:
- Open a story in the editor
- Open Language & translations
- Hover over the language you want to add
- Click Translate with AI when it appears
AI creates a translated copy while preserving your layout, assets, embeds, and structure.
How to start using auto-translation
Once the auto-translation add-on is added to your account, you can start using it simply by opening the story you want to translate in your story editor, and clicking on the language & translation panel in the sidebar on the right-hand side of your screen.
Whenever you go to translate a story to/from a language that is supported by the new feature, you'll see a prompt asking whether you'd like to use auto-translation.
Using auto-translation is entirely optional, and you can decide whether or not you use it on a story-by-story basis. If you choose to use AI, a new translation of your selected story will be created as a draft in your account, where you will be able to review and edit the content as normal.
