Media monitoring

Automatically track and import online media coverage and mentions from LinkedIn and Twitter/X.

You can set up media monitoring directly inside your Prezly account to automatically track online news coverage based on your chosen keywords. Matching mentions are logged as coverage in Prezly and linked to the relevant author, outlet, and site.

Supported media

Prezly has three built-in media monitoring options:

  • Online news monitor: Tracks online coverage and mentions across more than 235,000 sources, powered by Opoint
  • X/Twitter: Tacks brand mentions on x.com
  • LinkedIn: Tracks brand mentions on LinkedIn

Setting up

Step 1: Add media monitoring in settings

You can track multiple sets of keywords with Prezly's built-in media monitor. To do this:

  1. Select Coverage from the left-hand navigation bar
  2. Click the Media monitoring button on the top-right of your coverage page
  3. Click Add on the type of monitor you want to add

A settings panel will open, where you can name your integration to help remember its purpose.

Step 2: Choose what you want to track

In the settings panel, add the keywords you want to track. This will filter all results that include all of your terms. You can also add language and region filters to your search if you want to further refine your results.

When creating your integration, you can use the following parameters:

  • Keywords: For specific keywords related to your brand or topic
    • Operators like "-" or "ANDNOT" can do negative filtering
      E.g: -elvis | ANDNOT elvis
    • Uppercase keywords match only UPPERCASE results while lowercase match both
      E.g: elvis vs ELVIS
    • You can use '' or "" to match phrases instead of single words
E.g: 'Elvis Presley' | "Elvis Presley"
    • You can use [2..] | [..2] | [2..3] to match a keyword an exact number of times
[at least 2 times or more] | [no more than 2 times] | [at least 2 and no more than 3 times] respectively
      E.g: Elvis [2..] | Elvis [2..3] | Elvis [..3]
    • You can limit the keyword to specific areas like [header, body, summary; author]
      E.g: header:Elvis
  • Source: Choose specific sources like an outlet or blog
  • Language & location
    • Location/Country: Focus coverage on specific regions (for very targeted tracking only)
    • Language: Narrow down results by language for accuracy

Here is a short tutorial:

To add a term, type it in the input field, then select it from the dropdown list. Press Enter to select the first item.

You can add multiple terms, but keep in mind that more terms may reduce the quantity of results while increasing precision.

Don't filter too much: Adding too many terms might result in fewer fetched items. Additionally, coverage items are easy to review and remove, so having "higher numbers" of results is not necessarily bad.

Add languages: A good way to achieve more accurate results is to filter by the languages of locales. Select the languages of your press release when building your integration to obtain better results.

Step 3: Preview your media monitoring results

Prezly will automatically load a preview of your media monitoring results. This preview helps you assess if your settings are producing relevant clippings and shows how many items were found.

Use this preview to fine-tune your media monitoring terms.

Step 4: Define your "Contact" settings

Prezly can automatically match contacts found in clippings with your existing contacts. Use the following settings to enable or skip these functions.

  • Outlet:
    • Match/Create New (Default): Links outlets from clippings to existing organizations, or creates new ones if needed
    • Skip: Disables matching; no contacts will be added or updated
  • Author:
    • Match/Create New: Links authors from clippings to existing contacts, or creates new contacts if no match is found
    • Skip (Default): Disables matching; contacts won't be updated or created

Step 5: Get coverage clippings

To start the integration, click Add integration at the bottom of the panel. This begins a 14-day free trial of the media monitoring add-on, during which your first clippings will appear on your coverage page.

Clippings may take a few moments to populate, so please be patient.

Clippings might take some seconds or even minutes to come in, depending on the number of results.

6. Activate the integration

Your integration includes a free 14-day trial. After this period, to keep it active and fetching clippings, click the integration name in the grid (Coverage integrations → Opoint), and select Activate integration. A panel will open where you can choose the number of active integrations for your account.

Linking coverage to the story covered

When coverage is imported via Prezly’s built-in media monitoring, Prezly can automatically relate each clipping to a site if it can confidently determine which site the coverage belongs to. This happens when:

  • The site is clearly associated with the outlet or author
  • The coverage source matches an existing site in your account

This gives you immediate context without any manual work.

Manual linking (always available)

You can also link coverage to a site manually at any time:

  • From the coverage item itself
  • By selecting or changing the related site

Prezly helps by linking coverage automatically when possible, but you’re always in control and can override or add links manually.

Auto-creation of contacts

Prezly can automatically create or match contacts from the coverage it finds, based on the settings you choose when setting up the tracker.

What can be created automatically:

  • Media outlets
    • Matched to existing organizations in your CRM
    • Or created as new organizations if no match is found
  • Authors (journalists)
    • Matched to existing contacts
    • Or created as new contacts if they don’t already exist

When contacts are created

During setup, you define how Prezly should handle contacts:

  • Outlets
    • Match / create new (default)
    • Skip (no outlet matching or creation)
  • Authors
    • Match / create new
    • Skip (default)

If author creation is enabled, journalists found in coverage will be added to your CRM automatically. If it’s disabled, coverage is still logged, but no contacts are created or updated.

Important to know:

  • Contacts are created only when author or outlet data is available in the article
  • You stay in control – nothing is created unless the setting is enabled
  • You can change these settings later for each media monitoring integration
