Story settings

Access additional story actions via the Actions dropdown menu in the top right of the editor.

Move story

Transfer a story to a different site (requires multiple sites).

Important: Moving a story changes its URL. Previous URLs become dead links, so consider duplicating the story before moving it to preserve things like story links sent in emails.

To move:

1. Click Actions > Move story.

2. Select the destination site.

Duplicate story

Create a copy of any story to use as a foundation for new content or publish to multiple sites.

To duplicate:

  • From Stories page: Hover over the story, click "•••" menu, select Duplicate.
  • From Story Editor: Click Actions > Duplicate story.

The duplicate includes all content, uploads, images, and videos as a new draft.

Delete story

Delete stories from the Actions dropdown menu. Deleted stories cannot be recovered. If you want to remove a story fast, it might be easier to unpublish and convert to a draft.

Cover image & share options

Located in the right sidebar, this section controls how your story appears on your site and when shared.

Cover image

The cover (card) image appears on story cards across your site (e.g., homepage).

We have some sensible defaults so you don't always have to set a cover image. The order goes as follows:

  1. By default, the header image is used if set.
  2. If no images are set: the first image in the story becomes the cover image.
  3. Finally, if the story has no images, a placeholder with your site logo is used.

To set a different cover image, upload it in the "Cover image & sharing options" section to the right of the story editor.

Social sharing image

By default, the social image uses your header image when sharing on social media. To set a custom social image, add it in the Cover image & sharing options section.

Share message

You can customize the social sharing message that may appear as post text on some networks.

SEO settings

Within Seo settings you can set a story slug, meta title and meta description as well set a canonical link if your story content was published elsewhere.

Out of the box you get the following benefits for search engine optimization:

  • Prezly uses proper HTML standards and meta tags.
  • Stories load quickly through CDN caching.
  • All sites are fully responsive.
  • Pages include Open Graph and Twitter Card meta tags

Best practices for being indexed:

  • Set your site as public (private sites are hidden from search engines).
  • Use descriptive titles and subtitles.
  • Link your main website to your Prezly site.
  • Consider setting up your site under your own subdomain.

Categories

Categorize stories to help visitors find relevant content (available on Standard and Enterprise plans). Categories are shown on story cards and filters on the homepage, and allow users to easily navigate content on your site.

Setting up categories

1. Go to your site's dashboard > Categories.

2. Create categories and add translations (optional). Translations of category names are used when localizing your site.

3. Reorder categories by dragging.

4. Edit categories via the "•••" menu.

Categories can be 'featured' to show on the site homepage.

Adding categories to stories

In the story editor's right sidebar, click the Categories section and select one or more categories. Published stories appear under their assigned categories on your site.

How categories display

  • Categories appear in the navigation dropdown menu (or category strip if you have configured that in your site).
  • Each category has a dedicated URL (e.g., /category/company-news)
  • Story cards show category tags (clickable)

Note: Categories only appear if they contain at least one public story. Categories are site-specific and not shared across sites.

Story Version History

The Prezly Editor allows you to restore versions of your story for more efficient and confident writing.

Mistakes happen, but in Prezly, they're easy to rectify. In this help document, we'll guide you through the process of creating and restoring versions of your story, giving writers more confidence in the story creation process.

Did you know Prezly supports common undo and redo key bindings, just like many other text editors? You can swiftly revert accidental changes or restore content with [Cmd/Ctrl] + [Z] for undo and [Cmd/Ctrl] + [Y] for redo.

Accessing Story Version History

You can access your story versions effortlessly through two buttons on your editor interface. One is located at the top of the story settings (on the right-hand side of the screen), and the other is at the bottom, within the "advanced settings” section (also on the right-hand side of the screen).

Clicking on either button opens a panel displaying a snapshot of your current story version and all your saved versions in a list. To preview a version, simply click on it.

Creating a new version

Every time you save a story draft by clicking "Save changes" or publish/schedule your stories (including embargoed and confidential stories), a new version of the story is automatically created and saved in the version history list.

Restoring an older version

To restore an older version of your story, access the version history panel, select the version you want to restore, and click "Restore version." After confirming, your story version will be ready for editing in your story editor interface.

Copying a version to a new story

In addition to restoring a version, you can also create a new story based on an older story version. Open your version history panel, click the […] menu next to the version you want to copy, and select "Copy to a new story." You'll see a confirmation modal and land in a newly created story with the content from your selected older version, ready for editing.

Version history timeframes

The timeframe for accessing older versions varies depending on your subscription plan. Essential users have access to a 7-day version history, while Standard/Agency plans allow restoring story versions up to 90 days old.

Enterprise customers enjoy a full year of version history access.
