Private, Public, Embargo, & Confidential Stories
See how you can control the visibility of your published stories
Prezly gives you a few visibility options for your stories, which you can access by clicking on Publish Options... on the top right corner of the editor.
Here is how each Visibility status is defined.
When the story in Public, it means that it will be publicly available on your site overview (not only in the site but also on the web). It also means that search engines will index your story (making it discoverable using google for example helps SEO!)
When the story is Private it won't be available in the site, nor will be indexed by any search engines. Meaning that only people with that link to the story will be able to see it. There will also be no sharing buttons available in the story.
⚠️ Available only on Core, Premium, and Enterprise Plans. Go to Prezly's Feature labs page to learn more about activating this feature for your account. ⚠️
An Embargo story, is a story that will remain private until the embargo time is over.
When the story is still on embargo, and someone opens it, they'll see an embargo message at the top of the story letting the reader know that the release should remain private until that specified date.
When the set expiry date is reached, the press release will automatically be changed to Public.
The url of the story stays the same from Embargo to Published.
⚠️ Available only on Enterprise Plans. Go to Prezly's Feature labs page to learn more about activating this feature for your account. ⚠️
Private stories are excellent when your team wants to work on a story, but not let it appear to all readers in sites, or be indexed by search engines.
With Confidential stories, this is taken one step further:
- Confidential stories only appear to you, the author, in the Prezly application. Even your teammates will not be able to read or edit it!
- You may choose to share the Preview URL with anyone, so they can read it in the site.
- You may revoke this access at any time by unpublishing the story. (You may need to publish it first, if you shared a draft.) This expires the link you shared in the previous step, but feel free to share the new one again as needed.
More information on Confidential Stories can be found here. This option is available for Enterprise Plans only.
Visibility & email campaigns
When a story visibility is set to Private or Embargo, it won't be visible in your site overview but you can still create and send out email campaigns based on that story. Email campaigns from stories under embargo will display an embargo notice to the recipient.
